With 36 matches completed, fans have already witnessed 74 goals – averaging just over two per game – and a wealth of memorable storylines that have set the stage for an exciting climax.

CHAN 2024 Top Scorers and Key Performers

Uganda and Morocco emerged as the most prolific attacking teams, scoring eight goals each. The tournament’s top scorers so far are Allan Okello (Uganda), Oussama Lamlioui (Morocco), and Thabiso Kutumela (South Africa), with three goals apiece.

Morocco’s Youssef Mehri leads the assist chart with three decisive passes, while Kenya, Sudan, and Senegal stood out defensively, conceding just one goal each. On the flip side, Zambia had the weakest defense, letting in a tournament-high eight goals.

Out of the 36 games, 25 produced outright winners, with only 11 ending in draws – showing teams’ determination to secure victories.

Guinea’s Aboubacar Bangoura was the creative hub, carving out 13 chances for his teammates. In goal, Madagascar’s Michel Lalain’arinjaka impressed with 17 saves, while Mauritania’s Abderrahman Sarr and Tanzania’s Yakoub Ali each recorded four clean sheets.

The tournament has highlighted the tactical and technical growth of African football. Over 20,089 passes were completed in the group stage, with Angola leading the way with 1,737 passes – nearly 350 per game.

Sudan were the most clinical, converting 26% of their shots on target, compared to the overall tournament average of just above 3%.

The intensity of CHAN 2024 has been evident, with seven red cards influencing key matches. Penalties also played their part, with 11 goals scored from the spot, three of which came from Uganda.
