Africa-Press – Eritrea. The African Banker Magazine has honoured the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) head Kamau Thugge, as the Central Bank Governor of the Year.

In its announcement, the magazine highlighted the challenges faced by central bank governors globally this year, acknowledging the economic and geopolitical turmoil that has affected many regions, including Africa.

“Despite these challenges, during your tenure, you have successfully stabilized markets and instilled confidence in the Kenyan economy,” the statement read.

The magazine praised the Kenyan markets’ positive response and the banking sector’s resilience under Thugge’s leadership, emphasising Kenya’s position as a regional financial leader.

The awards committee further recognised his strategic role in addressing market failures and fostering economic growth.

Thugge expressed his gratitude to the CBK board, Monetary Policy Committee, management and staff.

“This recognition is an affirmation of Kenya’s sound macro-economic policies,” he said.

The ceremony took place on May 28 in Nairobi, coinciding with the 2024 Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank.

Now in its 18th year, the African Banker Awards celebrate institutions and individuals who have significantly contributed to the reform, modernisation, and expansion of Africa’s banking and financial sector, fostering sustained economic growth across the continent.
