Africa-Press – Eritrea. Toyota Motor continued to lead global automobile sales for the fifth consecutive year, despite a 3.7% drop in manufacturing units in 2024, according to data released by the Japanese firm on Thursday.
The Toyota group, which includes truck manufacturer Hino Motors and mini-vehicle maker Daihatsu Motor, sold 10.82 million units in 2024, a 3.7% decrease from the previous year, according to the data.
The company’s sales fell 1.4%, excluding Hino and Daihatsu, with 1.44 million units sold domestically last year, a 13.8% decrease.
However, sales in North America increased by 4.3% to 2.73 million vehicles, while sales in Europe also rose by 3.6% to 1.17 million units.
Meanwhile, in the face of fierce price competition, sales in China dropped 6.9% to 1.78 million units.
Toyota’s electric vehicle sales increased 34.5% to 139,892 units, while hybrid sales increased by 21.1% to 4.14 million in 2024 compared to 2023.
Toyota’s main rival, Germany’s Volkswagen, came in second in global sales with 9.03 million units, down 2.3% in 2024, compared to the previous year.
