Twitter to share ad revenue with content creators – Musk

Africa-Press – Eritrea. Content creators on Twitter have a reason to smile as they will soon start smiling all the way to the bank courtesy of their creativity.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Friday announced that content creators will get a share of revenue for ads that appear in their reply threads.

“Starting today, Twitter will share ad revenue with creators for ads that appear in their reply threads,” Musk said in a statement on Twitter.

This therefore means content creators whose threads attract most ads on the replies will earn big.

“To be eligible, the account must be a subscriber to Twitter Blue Verified,” Musk said.

In retrospect, this could also be Musk’s marketing strategy considering users must now pay for Twitter Blue verification.

Consumer Federation of Kenya secretary general Stephen Mutoro was among notable Kenyans who welcomed the new development.

And like many Twitter users, he also wondered what percentage of the revenue creators will be entitled to.

“That is a good idea. It’s the bit on sharing ratio and frequency that is unclear,” Mutoro said.

In response, Musk said, “More to come on this front. Twitter needs to be where a creator is most highly rewarded for their time and talent.”
