Africa-Press – Eswatini. Teams that are found wanting in 2023 Momo Cup voting will soon regret their actions, as the MTN Premier League will crack down on any foul play.
The voting numbers are staggering, with some teams racking hundreds of votes in less than four days. For instance, the top six teams on the leaderboard are Peak Pigg’s Black Swallows, Lozitha Spurs, Manzini Wanderers, Denver Sundowns, Mbabane Swallows and Highlanders, who had over 2.5 million votes combined yesterday at 4pm. However, this is not to suggest that these teams have cheated. Notably is that teams accumulated around 200 000 votes in a month last year, where voting ran from August 31 to September 30, 2022 midnight.
However, not all votes are created equally. The MTN Premier League has issued a stern warning to any teams that will be caught acquiring votes outside of the MoMo Cup rules. They will face the music and lose their votes. “Any voting points obtained by member clubs through votes accumulated through floating transfers between and/or among agents and merchants are null and void. Member clubs are assured that the audit of the voting process is ongoing and where votes have been gained outside of the rules, such votes will be deemed null and void and shall be deducted from the club’s total number of votes,” said Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and MoMo Cup Management Committee (MC) Secretary Kenneth Makhanya.
According to Article 2(9) of the MoMo Cup Rules and Regulations, there are only three legitimate ways of getting votes: By sending money, making payments, and paying bills and electricity using MoMo. It has been gathered that some teams and fans have allegedly tried to cheat the system by using MoMo agents and merchants, which goes against the spirit of the tournament. “Member clubs are, therefore, urged to use these prescribed methods since the MTN Fintech Services Audit Team has initiated the process to identify all votes which do not conform to or comply with the above-mentioned rule. MoMo agents and MoMo merchants are not MoMo users but are MTN Fintech Services business partners,” further reads the statement.
As per Article 2(1), the sponsor gives away five free voting points for every E10 transaction completed using MoMo to MoMo users. That means E100 can get you 50 free voting points. To vote, fans dial *7000# and follow the prompts. Each vote costs E2.
