Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Premier League of Eswatini has warned all their teams to refrain from participating in tournaments that are not organised and authorised by them.

This was relayed through a press statement issued on Tuesday where the PLE expressed their concern on their members participation in such tournaments.

“The PLE has noted with concern the surge in football tournaments that feature PLE member clubs without the sanction or approval by the PLE. Tournament organisers and sponsors are advised that member clubs are subject to the PLE constitution which empowers the league to organise and administer professional football on behalf of all member clubs”.

Member clubs are reminded of their obligation (Article 15) to respect the authority of the league structures and refrain from participating in tournaments which have not been organised or approved by the PLE. The PLE further added that they were open to different stakeholders and sponsors who were interested in hosting tournaments.

“We welcome stakeholders who want to partner with the league to host a football tournament but the proper administrative channels should be complied with. Only the PLE has the authority to arrange a tournament involving PLE member clubs, with or without a sponsor”. Teams that will be found guilty or participating will then face heavy fines and the tournaments will be stopped from being staged.

“Once the PLE has been approached, proper procedures shall be followed to approve that tournament and the PLE office shall guide on how to proceed. PLE would like to state it clearly that failure to follow the above procedure shall lead to tournaments being stopped or not allowed to proceed.

Member clubs are kindly requested to abide by this process or face being charged for misconduct,” reads the press statement. Some PLE teams will take part in the Bible Society Cup and the Hospice Eswatini Charity Cup.
