Africa-Press – Eswatini. Last Saturday 38 police officers were among the thousands of graduands during the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).
The 38 officers graduated with a Diploma in Science which is offered by the Matsapha Police Academy in collaboration with UNESWA. Amongst the 38 graduating officers were 27 officers who were the first batch of students to be produced under the Diploma in Science course.
Programme
This programme was launched with the aim to revolutionise the policing profession as with evolution the vocation has changed massively hence the importance of having a better equipped Police Service.
The first cohort of the graduates were part of the 2021/2022 completing class, but only graduated this year as this was the first graduation to be hosted by the university since 2019 as the following years there were challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
The officers were led to the podium by their programme coordinator to be conferred with their diplomas.
Study
Two of the officers obtained a merit, while 22 got a credit while three has a pass. The Diploma in Science officers were not the only members of the REPS who graduated on the day as there were other officers that received degrees and diplomas in different fields of study.
The programme was a result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and the institution of higher learning in the country. The graduation was graced by His Majesty king Mswati III who is the chancellor and also the commander-in- chief of the REPS.
REPS executive meets, congratulates police officers who are now MPs
The office of the national commissioner of police has congratulated the police officers who emerged victorious in the national elections.
The officers this week met with the REPS executive, where they were congratulated on their victory. They were further urged to always remember and stay true to the oath of office they took as police officers.
In the recently concluded National Elections at least three officers were elected into the position of member of Parliament while a fourth one managed to win in the position of Indvuna yenkhudla.
The officers who are now legislators include KaMethula Inkhundla MP Jabulani Simelane, who was stationed at Ngonini OSSU, Nkomiyahlaba MP Mduduzi Mantunta Dlamini who was stationed at Matsapha police station and Mayiwane MP Prince Sicelo Dlamini who was at Tshaneni.
The fourth one is Pigg’s Peak Indvuna yenkhundla Mthobisi Vilakati, who was previously stationed at the police headquarters under the Forensics unit.
Support
The executive also expressed on the achievement of the former officers as it meant that the organisation would receive sufficient support in parliament when it pursues legislative endeavours since there are three members of parliament who understand the organisation through their experience.
The executive further stated that they were hopeful that the four would continue to exhibit traits that are expected of a disciplined services member throughout their tenure in parliament as police officers are expected to always uphold and respect the law.
