Africa-Press – Eswatini. The iconic ‘Ros Lakrwa’ in the sea just outside the St Joseph church at Anse Royale now has a new look, following renovation work by a group of inmates from the Montagne Posée prison.

A new concrete cross has been installed to replace the old dilapidated wooden one which had been in place for many years.

The new cross was blessed on Sunday by Father Collin Underwood as part of the activities to commemorate the feast of St Joseph the worker.

According to rehabilitation officer within the prison services, Donald Zialor, 14 inmates were involved in the project which was initiated by the commissioner of prisons, Raymond St. Ange.

He said after noticing the state of the previous wooden cross, Mr St. Ange, following consultation with parish priest Father Collin Underwood, decided to replace the cross which has been an iconic attraction in the area for many years.

Mr Zialor said the 14 inmates – including one lady – agreed instantly and volunteered to be involved in the project.

Still according to Mr Zialor, constructing the cross was the easy part of the job, while the installation required a lot of precision since it was off shore, with the tide and current being a major factor.

All 14 inmates attended the annual Labour Day Mass on Sunday, before proceeding to the blessing ceremony.
