Africa-Press – Eswatini. Imbube Marathon is not just a sport, but it is also a national platform that reflects endurance, discipline, and unity. This was said by Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Futhie Tembe.

This was during the launch of the 8th edition of the Imbube Marathon on April 27, 2026. The Imbube Marathon 2026 is scheduled to take place on 17 October 2026 at Somhlolo National Stadium.

The launch ceremony was held at Happy Valley Hotel in Mbabane, bringing together government officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, ENPF leadership, stakeholders, and members of the media.

Tembe officiated the launch and highlighted the significance of the marathon as more than a sporting event, describing it as a national platform that reflects endurance, discipline, and unity.

“The initiative aligns with ENPF’s broader vision of creating meaningful and sustainable impact for Emaswati.” She said

The event will feature 3km, 10km, 21km, and 42km race categories, catering for elite athletes, recreational runners, and families.

Tembe noted that the marathon continues to strengthen its international standing through its World Athletics accreditation, which allows athletes’ performances to be recognised globally. She further stated that the event remains a qualifying race for the Comrades Marathon, attracting both local and regional competitors.

Organisers confirmed that enhanced route planning, improved timing systems, and strengthened safety measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and world-class experience for all participants.

The CEO also emphasised the importance of partnerships in delivering a successful event, noting that official sponsors and collaborators will be announced in due course.

The Imbube Marathon is expected to attract thousands of participants, reinforcing Eswatini’s position in regional athletics while promoting fitness, unity, and national pride.
