Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu and the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane officially saw off the Republic of China (Taiwan) Special Envoy, Dr Lin Chai-Lung, as he departed Eswatini through King Mswati III International Airport on Saturday.

The departure was attended by members of the Taiwanese community in Eswatini, who joined the two ministers along with Eswatini’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Promise Msibi, in bidding an emotional farewell to the visiting dignitary.

Dr Lin Chai-Lung was in the Kingdom for a five-day working visit aimed at strengthening the already close bilateral relations between Eswatini and Taiwan.

During his stay, Dr Lin participated in several key engagements and emphaisized Taiwan’s commitment to supporting Eswatini’s national development efforts.

His visit highlighted the enduring diplomatic ties that have existed between the two countries for over five decades, with Eswatini remaining Taiwan’s only diplomatic ally in Africa.

One of the major highlights of Dr Lin’s visit was his attendance at the 57th Birthday celebrations of His Majesty King Mswati III, held at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano.

His presence at the national event symbolized Taiwan’s continued solidarity with the Kingdom and its respect for Eswatini’s leadership.

In addition to the royal celebrations, Dr Lin engaged in high-level discussions with government officials, focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and technological innovation.

The Special Envoy also visited several Taiwanese-funded development projects within Eswatini, assessing the progress of initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of emaSwati.

Dr Lin expressed satisfaction with the progress made and pledged Taiwan’s continued support in empowering communities and strengthening sustainable development.
