Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sprinter Bongiwe Mahlalela continues to shine in South Africa’s athletics competitions as she was part of the team that bagged a bronze medal in 4X400m.

This was during the University Sport of South Africa (USSA) Championships. The Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) athlete faced some challenges during the competitions but she bounced back to win the bronze medal.

Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) congratulated the athlete for the achievement.

“Despite facing disappointment with a disqualification in the 200m semi-finals due to a false start, Bongiwe’s spirit remained unbroken. She bounced back and contributed to her team’s success by clinching a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay. This achievement truly brightened her mood and showcased her resilience on the track.

Meanwhile, Mahlalela also ran three seasonal bests and successfully qualified through all rounds – heats, semi-finals, and finals on Saturday. After consistently running 11.9s this season, she delivered an impressive 11.73s today, setting a new season best.

Mahlalela has also been able to win some awards in South Africa. She is the current national champions in both the 100m and 200m. She is expected to be part of the Athletics Eswatini (AE) National Championships to be held this month.
