Africa-Press – Eswatini. Behind every missing child’s name is a story, a family, and a community holding onto hope.
Between January and May this year, 83 children under the age of 18 were reported missing across Eswatini, triggering swift and heartfelt responses from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and community members.
In a show of dedication and resilience, 59 of these children have been found alive, a powerful testament to the unyielding efforts of police officers, volunteers, and everyday citizens.
These reunions are stories of joy, healing, and restored hope, moments that remind us all of the value of working together for our most vulnerable.
Yet, the journey is not over.
As of today, 15 children remain missing, and REPS has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to finding them. The campaign, now amplified under the call #FacesWeMustFind, is a call to all EmaSwati to stay vigilant and share any information that could lead to their safe return.
Tragically, nine children were found deceased under heartbreaking circumstances that include drowning, murder, and exposure to harsh conditions. While each loss weighs heavily on the nation’s heart, REPS continues to emphasize the importance of facts and verified information in protecting the integrity of these cases and supporting ongoing investigations.
So far, three of these deaths have been confirmed as murders, with one arrest made. Investigations into two additional suspected murders are active, focused on incidents in nyakatfo (Hhohho) and Jericho (Siguduma). The police are also seeking public assistance in locating Michael Hlatshwako, a suspect linked to one of the cases.
This journey is not just about statistics; it’s about every child, every parent, and every officer who chooses hope over fear. REPS thanks all partners and pledges to continue the fight for truth, justice, and safety for every Liswati child.
