EDDIE ZONDI CELEBRATION TO AID GIRLS IN NEED

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Music lovers and philanthropists alike will come together this Sunday, June 15, for an event that blends nostalgia, soul, and giving back. Titled “Remembering Eddie Zondi”, the celebration is a heartfelt tribute to the late South African Afro-soul and R&B icon — and a call to support schoolgirls in need.

Organized by the Helping Hand Foundation in collaboration with 23:28 Lounge located at Checkers Business Park, the event will honour Zondi’s legacy with timeless love songs and sing-along sessions while collecting sanitary pads for underprivileged girls.

“Eddie Zondi was known for his soothing love songs and soulful R&B mixes,” said Ncamiso Mahlalela, founder of Helping Hand. “He passed on Father’s Day,(16 June 2014) and we thought it fitting to celebrate his life on this special day dedicated to fathers.”

More than just music, the event seeks to uplift local communities by ensuring no young girl misses school due to lack of menstrual products. Guests are encouraged to bring donations of sanitary pads as their “ticket” for entry.

The family of DJs lending their talent for the day — DJ Cybos, DJ Mavava, DJ Young Love, DJ Deenox, and DJ MasterJack — are all volunteering their time and soulful sets to support the cause.

“These are my friends and some of the only DJs in Eswatini who specialize in R&B and soul,” Mahlalela shared. “They’ve offered to play for free because they believe in the mission.”

The event will take place at the elegant 23:28 Lounge, where a donation bin will be available for sanitary pads, as well as clothes, shoes, or essentials for those in need.

Venue owner and CEO Thembinkosi Mthethwa echoes the spirit of Ubuntu that underpins the event, committing to use his space not only for entertainment but also for community impact.

Gates open at 12 PM until late, and safety is assured with professional security in place.

Looking to the future, Mahlalela hopes this initiative will become an annual Father’s Day tradition, or even evolve into bi-monthly Sunday sessions — each focused on collecting resources for vulnerable groups.

“The goal is to keep the spirit of Ubuntu alive while enjoying good music,” he said.

With love songs in the air and compassion at the core, “Remembering Eddie Zondi” promises a soulful Sunday that heals, honours, and helps.
