Africa-Press – Eswatini. Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla donated food parcels consisting of maize, dried fruits, and noodles to four schools during the official opening of newly rehabilitated classrooms. The beneficiary schools are Mampempeni Primary, Ekuphumuleni High, Mndlunkhulu Primary, and Lwandle Primary, which were recently restored following damage caused by Cyclone Eloise in 2023.

The food donation formed part of a broader effort to support the recovery of schools that suffered during the cyclone. Rehabilitation was made possible with financial assistance from the African Union Commission through its Humanitarian Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Bureau of the Permanent Representative Council Sub-Committee of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Micro Projects, and the Government of Eswatini through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).

Speaking during the official handover, DPM Dladla extended gratitude to His Majesty King Mswati III for fostering diplomatic relationships that have attracted such timely international aid. She called on school communities to protect and preserve the upgraded infrastructure for the benefit of future generations.

During the handover ceremonies at Mampempeni and Ekuphumuleni, the DPM encouraged schools to expand their gardens by planting crops such as peanuts and beans to improve student nutrition. She also thanked His Majesty King Mswati III for nurturing international partnerships that continue to benefit rural communities in times of need.

In addition to the food parcels, NDMA supplied 150 chairs to the two schools, and 150 desks are scheduled to be delivered next week to Ekuphumuleni High School.
