Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini showcased its volleyball prowess over the weekend as local teams dominated the Scorpion International Volleyball Tournament held at the Matsapha Volleyball Arena.

The high-energy tournament attracted elite teams from across the region, including international squads from South Africa, Lesotho, and Botswana. However, it was Eswatini teams that stole the spotlight, with REPS and His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) leading the charge and securing first-place finishes in their respective categories.

Among the tournament highlights, the Correctional Sunrise ladies claimed a commanding 2-0 victory against Red Skins from Botswana, while the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) men’s team mirrored that performance with a 2-0 win over Botswana’s Mafolofolo. HMCS men also impressed with a solid 2-0 win against the South Africa’s side, and Bobcats battled hard to edge out Red Skins in a thrilling 2-1 encounter.

Reps delivered consistent performances throughout the tournament, displaying skill, cohesion, and resilience against tough opponents. Their triumph was matched by HMCS, whose players demonstrated impressive discipline and coordination to maintain top position in their division.

Local fan-favorite Scorpion Volleyball Club also put on a strong performance, reaching the advanced stages of the tournament and gaining valuable experience competing against regional powerhouses such as South Africa’s national representatives who maintained third place in the tournament.

The tournament served not only as a competitive platform but also as a celebration of regional sportsmanship, unity, and athletic talent. The presence of teams from across southern Africa created a vibrant atmosphere and fostered cross-border camaraderie.

According to Correctional Sunrise head coach, Mbuso Vilakati, they are happy to have participated in the tournament saying that it was not easy but they maintained to come up on the top also thanked support from their bosses.

“First of all we would like to thank our Commissioner General for the support she gave to us and allowing us to participate in this tournament also thank you to scorpions for hosting just a wonderful tournament.” Said Vilakati.

“It was not easy , but the team managed to rise above the challenges, playing REPS and Scorpions same day its not easy because they give u a run for your money, but the girls showed character, they showed mental toughness hence the domination but it was honestly tough.” He added.

With Eswatini teams proving their mettle, the Scorpion Volleyball Tournament has once again cemented its place as a key fixture on the regional volleyball calendar.
