Africa-Press – Eswatini. Seluliwe Mdluli, a passionate Swazi crochet designer based in Woodlands, Mbabane, made waves at the 2025 Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival with her vibrant, culturally-rooted fashion collection showcased on the prestigious Mastercard Stage.
For Mdluli the moment was nothing short of magical. “Seeing my designs take center stage at the Mastercard Stage of the Luju Festival was truly surreal and exhilarating,” she said. “It was a dream come true to see my creations being showcased on such a prestigious platform.”
Her latest collection is a tribute to the beauty of African tradition, deeply inspired by Eswatini’s rich cultural identity. Drawing from luvadla lwemaswati, traditional Swati attire, Mdluli merged heritage with high fashion. Earthy tones and tassel elements defined the pieces, telling a powerful visual story of identity, pride, and celebration.
“The materials and colors were carefully selected to tell a story of Eswatini’s culture and heritage,” she shared. “I wanted my designs to reflect our unique identity while celebrating who we are.”
Being part of Luju Festival was more than just a showcase for Seluliwe, it was a milestone in her creative journey. “Representing Eswatini fashion on a high-profile platform like Luju is an immense honor. It’s a privilege to showcase our unique culture and style to a global audience,” she said.
Her designs didn’t just turn heads, they touched hearts. The positive feedback she received from festivalgoers reaffirmed the emotional depth and cultural significance of her work. “The most memorable reaction was the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the audience, with many praising the attention to detail and cultural relevance of my designs.”
Looking ahead, Mdluli is already building on her momentum. She announced an upcoming collaboration with local artisans to launch a sustainable fashion line, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes. “We’re working on a new collection and runway shows that will continue to spotlight Eswatini’s culture in new, creative ways,” she teased.
With her vision, talent, and cultural pride, Seluliwe Mdluli is not just designing clothes, she’s weaving Eswatini’s heritage into the fabric of modern fashion.
