Africa-Press – Eswatini. Manzini police swapped uniforms for vintage glam this past Saturday night as they hosted a Gala Dinner and Appreciation Awards ceremony at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, a classy night where honour met humour, and duty met designer outfits.
The evening kicked off with an opening prayer by Sgt. Mandla Dlamini, followed by the acknowledgement of stakeholders by Programme Directors Insp. Makhanya and Dorah Mdluli.
Station Commander of Manzini Police Station then addressed the gathering on the purpose of the event, setting the tone for an evening filled with recognition, entertainment, and camaraderie.
Manzini Regional Administrator Chief Prince Gija delivered the official welcome remarks, noting the importance of community policing and unity.
From CID to Community Safety and Traffic, officers were honoured across multiple departments. Awards included Best Disciplined Officer, Best Performing Officer, and Best Dressed per department, all judged under strict department categories.
Civilian support staff were not left behind, receiving recognition for being Dedicated or Committed, Best Time Keeper, and Highly Disciplined Support Staff.
The evening also saw Supervisor’s Awards, which included Best Clean Supervisor and Best Supervisor Time Keeper.
The room was buzzing with pride and laughter when Mr. Sihle Mavuso took the stage for a motivational segment aptly titled, “Work with no play makes Jack a dull boy.” His humorous tone added warmth and relatability to the event.
National Commissioner Vusi Masango and Regional Commissioner C. Simelane gave their remarks later in the evening, both commending the Manzini team for their professionalism, growth and bravery in handling daily policing challenges.
Dr. Kobla Quashie, the guest of honour, delivered a keynote address filled with witty storytelling, urging stronger community-police-business partnerships and promoting lighter, friendlier engagement for a safer Eswatini.
He joked about shopkeepers sharing tea and biscuits with police and barbers offering discounts in return for a safe environment, earning roaring laughter from the packed hall.
“Businesses want to thrive, police want to protect, and the people of Eswatini want peace, and maybe cheaper airtime,” said Quashie, wrapping up on a high note.
Sponsors came out in full force, led by Roots Civils and the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, who each contributed E10 000.
EasyBuy Supermarkets and Century Fashions gave E5 000 apiece, while other generous contributors included Ekhaya Funerals, United Holdings, Mula Sport, Ngwane Park Primary School, and Bradlows Furniture.
The night ended with a vote of thanks and closing prayer, but not before the dance floor was taken over by guests showing off both vintage-inspired style and celebration-worthy moves.
From celebrating excellence to inspiring future service, the REPS Manzini Gala proved once again that the badge shines brightest when polished with purpose, pride, and just a little vintage flair.
