Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Natural Resources has visited Sigwe constituency to evaluate and approve a proposed site for the installation of a new borehole, reinforcing national efforts to improve access to clean water in underserved areas.
The visit formed part of a technical assessment to determine whether the location is suitable for groundwater extraction. Muzi Matsenjwa, who represented the Ministry during the visit, emphasised the urgency of the situation. “This community is in great need of a borehole to address ongoing water shortages,” he said.
Matsenjwa confirmed that the Ministry will soon dispatch a team of surveyors to identify underground water sources. Once the survey is complete, machinery will be delivered to the community of Sigwe, where three boreholes have been proposed.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Bucopho Thabiso Dlamini acted swiftly. Despite limited resources, he reached out to the Ministry’s Nhlangano office, a trusted partner in local development. Together, they managed to repair the borehole in Mngcuphane. This effort forms part of a broader, ongoing project to restore access to safe water throughout the constituency.
Further repairs are also underway. Team leader Mathew Kumalo is overseeing the rehabilitation of additional boreholes. With Mngcuphane’s already fixed, the team is now focusing on the borehole in Mdlamazane, which remains under maintenance.
Dlamini expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far. “I’m happy to see the people of Sigwe benefiting from these efforts,” he said. “We are grateful to the government of His Majesty King Mswati III for caring about the wellbeing of the community.”
These developments are part of the government’s wider commitment to ensuring rural communities gain reliable access to clean and safe water.
