KING ENCOURAGES ESWATINI TO PARTICIPATE IN JAPAN EXPO 2027

Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has encouraged Eswatini to seize the opportunity to participate in Japan Expo 2027, saying it would provide a unique platform for the Kingdom to market itself to the world.

The King made the remarks on 24 August 2025 at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, when reporting on his recent trip to Japan where he attended the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). He attended this meeting after attending the 45th Ordinary SADC Summit held in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

His Majesty expressed admiration for the impressive development strides made by Japan, particularly in the fields of innovation and technology. “We were impressed by the progress Japan has achieved, especially in the area of technology,” he said, adding that Eswatini had much to learn from the Asian nation’s experience.

Invitation to Showcase Eswatini

During his visit, Japanese authorities extended an invitation to Eswatini to participate in Japan Expo 2027. The King explained that the global exhibition will bring together countries from all continents, offering a rare opportunity for Eswatini to showcase its potential in trade, investment, tourism, and culture.

“Eswatini would benefit a lot from this activity because the country would be marketing itself to countries from all over the world,” His Majesty noted. He encouraged government, the private sector, and other stakeholders to begin preparing early to ensure that Eswatini’s participation is impactful and leaves a lasting impression.

Learning from Japan’s Development Model

His Majesty further stressed that Eswatini could “take a leaf” from Japan’s path to development. Japan, once a nation recovering from devastation, is now one of the world’s most advanced economies. The King urged Emaswati to draw inspiration from Japan’s commitment to innovation, discipline, and investment in human capital.

A particular source of encouragement came from the many Emaswati currently studying and working in Japan, some of whom had the opportunity to meet the King during his visit. He urged them to acquire skills and knowledge that could later be applied to accelerate Eswatini’s own development.

“Our people in Japan are an asset,” His Majesty said. “The skills they are gaining should be brought back home to contribute towards building Eswatini into a modern, developed nation.”

A Global Stage for Eswatini

Japan Expo 2027 is expected to attract millions of visitors and participants from across the globe. For Eswatini, the event represents a chance not only to strengthen bilateral relations with Japan, but also to raise its international profile and attract new partnerships that can drive economic growth.
