Amazon Web Services Equips RSTP Developers with Skills

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s digital transformation drive received a major boost this week with the successful completion of a five-day intensive training programme conducted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for developers from the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP).

The training, which brought together seven developers from RSTP, concluded with a celebratory closing ceremony attended by the Honourable Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT). The event underscored the Kingdom’s determination to build a knowledge-based economy powered by cutting-edge digital skills.

Minister Highlights Strategic Partnerships

In her keynote address, the Minister emphasised the importance of forging strategic partnerships with world-class organisations such as AWS, noting that such collaborations are central to accelerating Eswatini’s march towards becoming a first-world nation.

“Capacity building is at the heart of national transformation,” she declared. “By equipping our young professionals with globally recognised skills, we not only attract international investors but also create sustainable innovations that address our own national challenges.”

The Minister proudly reflected on the Ministry’s recent milestones in advancing digital literacy and innovation. These include:

Training 108 girls in space education,

Empowering 50 teachers in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, and

Launching an ambitious coding programme to train 300,000 emaSwati.

She described the AWS collaboration as a “pivotal beginning” that opens the door to more advanced training, particularly in cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and digital innovation.

“We want to show the youth what it means to associate with the best,” she said, reiterating her vision of positioning Eswatini as a continental leader in digitisation and cybersecurity.

AWS Training: Building Blocks for the Future

The five-day training programme focused on two globally recognised courses: AWS Cloud Practitioner and Developing on AWS. These courses provided developers with essential knowledge in cloud computing, security, scalability, and best practices for building modern digital solutions.

For Eswatini, these skills are more than technical certifications – they represent the country’s growing capacity to engage competitively in the global digital economy.

RSTP Applauds Developers’ Commitment

The closing ceremony was also addressed by the Chairperson of the RSTP Board, who commended both the Ministry and AWS for their forward-looking partnership.

“We are deeply grateful to our partners at Amazon Web Services for delivering such impactful training,” she said. “These courses are not just certificates, but foundational skills that strengthen our developers’ ability to build secure, reliable, and scalable solutions.”

She went on to applaud the participating developers for their commitment and urged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge to make a tangible impact in Eswatini’s growing technology ecosystem.

“This knowledge is an investment not only in your careers, but in the future of this nation,” she added. “Carry it forward to inspire innovation and to help improve the lives of emaSwati.”

Eswatini’s Vision: ‘The Singapore of Africa’

The Minister closed her keynote on an inspiring note, urging all stakeholders to remain part of the transformative journey that Eswatini is undertaking.

“Together, we can truly build the Singapore of Africa,” she said, reaffirming her bold aspiration to make Eswatini a model of digital excellence, innovation, and resilience in the region.

Positioning Eswatini in Africa’s Digital Landscape

The AWS–RSTP collaboration comes at a time when African nations are racing to strengthen their digital infrastructures and workforce capabilities. With cloud technologies now serving as the backbone of global commerce, security, and governance, Eswatini’s investment in developing home-grown expertise signals its readiness to compete on the continental and global stage.

Through this initiative, Eswatini is not only training developers, but also laying the foundation for a digital ecosystem capable of attracting investors, fostering home-grown innovations, and addressing local challenges through technology.

Looking Ahead

The conclusion of the AWS training marks only the beginning of what stakeholders describe as a long-term partnership. Future programmes are expected to expand into areas such as advanced cloud architecture, cybersecurity frameworks, and artificial intelligence applications.

For the seven developers who completed the training, the challenge now lies in applying their skills to real-world projects that will contribute directly to national development. For the Ministry, it represents another step forward in a broader strategy to transform Esawatini into a digitally empowered nation.

As one participant noted during the closing ceremony: “This training has shown us what is possible. With the right support and vision, we can build solutions here in Eswatini that meet global standards.”

With vision, partnerships, and determination, Eswatini is setting itself firmly on the path of digital transformation – and AWS has now become part of that journey.
