Africa-Press – Eswatini. In Sigulaneni, Hhohho region, a determined young man is proving that with the right tools and support, dreams can turn into opportunities.
Lucky Dlamini, 34, completed his plumbing training at the Manzini Industrial Training Centre (MITC) in 2018 and later earned his Grade 3 plumbing qualification from VOCTIM. Yet, despite his qualifications, Lucky faced a daunting challenge: he had no tools of his own. He often borrowed from others, which meant splitting his earnings and limiting how much work he could take on.
That all changed when Lucky became one of more than 100 youth who benefited from the TVET Starter Toolkit Programme, supported by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs and implemented by ENYC.
“This was my second attempt,” he shares with pride. “I applied in 2022 but did not make it. I tried again and got selected. Now I am my own boss.”
With his toolkit, Lucky has already completed more than five plumbing projects, ranging from fixing toilets and bathrooms to sculleries and sinks. He is not only earning an income but also creating opportunities for others by calling on fellow youth to assist when demand is high.
Thanks to business training from the Youth Enterprise Fund – Eswatini, Lucky is also learning the power of financial discipline. He is saving steadily with the goal of registering his own company, positioning himself to become a legal supplier for companies such as the Eswatini Water Services Corporation.
Lucky’s journey is proof that when young people are empowered with tools, knowledge, and mentorship, the benefits ripple across entire communities.
