Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati is the incoming Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community(SADC) Organ on Politics, Defense and Security but, his credibility in chairing this organ remains questionable considering the fact that, there’s no democracy in eSwatini.

Political parties are banned in eSwatini and not allowed to participate in elections and this, undermines SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.

It is important therefore, to remind SADC that there’s nothing like ‘unique democracy’, in eSwatini dictatorship under the ruling Tinkhundla regime was rebranded as “Monarchial Democracy” and the regional body has been failing to take decisive action against the eSwatini cruel, oppressive and undemocratic regime.

King Mswati as the incoming Chairperson of the SADC Troika Organ has wished Malawians a peaceful election but, the King is not a democratically elected Head of State and therefore, cannot share an informed opinion about democracy or democratic processes.

King Mswati as the incoming Troika Chairperson, must allow democracy in eSwatini and the institution of the Monarchy will, depending on the outcomes of a referendum, exist under a constitutional multi-party democracy.

But unlike in other countries where the Monarchy is a symbol or unity peace and stability, in eSwatini it is a symbol of oppression.

As the situation stands, the King’s credibility in chairing the SADC Troika Organ remains questionable because there’s no democracy in eSwatini.

SADC must therefore, adhere to the founding principles and values that established this regional organization, allowing dictators to chair such critical organs like Troika, grossly undermines the fundamental values and principles of democracy.
