ARMY RECRUITMENT STARTS THIS SATURDAY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Aspiring soldiers are called upon to be ready for the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) recruitment exercise, which is set to begin this Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Mafutseni Inkhundla.

The recruitment drive will run until November 29, 2025. UEDF Commander, Moses Mashikilisane Hulumende Fakudze, made the announcement on Monday, September 15, 2025, during a press conference at the UEDF Headquarters in Nokwane. He noted that the exact number of recruits needed would be revealed at the launch event in Mafutseni.

Fakudze explained that the recruitment follows a call made by His Majesty King Mswati III during the 2025 Army Day in March, when he urged aspiring soldiers to prepare for enlistment. His Majesty, as the UEDF Commander-In-Chief, approved the recruitment announcement that was officially made on September 15.

To ensure transparency and prevent corrupt practices, Fakudze announced the formation of a recruitment committee that will oversee the entire process. He described the appointed members as professionals of integrity who are committed to carrying out their duties diligently.

The committee will also verify that candidates have made an independent decision to join the UEDF, without outside influence such as parental intervention.

The recruitment committee members are:

Brigadier General Thabo Luhlanga – second-in-charge of UEDF personnel

Brigadier General Sotsha Dlamini – oversees recruit training at Mbuluzi

Brigadier General Elijah Shabangu – UEDF Chief of Training

Lieutenant Colonel Dumile Dlamini

Lieutenant Colonel Mthembeni Matsenjwa – UEDF Intelligence Department

Defence Sergeant Major Fana Dlamini – advisor to the UEDF Commander on discipline and training

Fakudze outlined the requirements for aspiring soldiers, which include physical fitness tests, medical examinations, and fingerprint checks. He emphasised that thorough vetting will be conducted to assess candidates’ backgrounds and lifestyles. These checks will be carried out at various stages of the recruitment process after the initial physical fitness assessments.
