ESWATINI TO EXPLORE CREATION OF SPACE AGENCY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The agreement signed between the Ministry of Information Communications and Technology and Canadian based space company, Stardust would see the Kingdom of Eswatini exploring the creation of Space Agency to be housed under the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP).

This is detailed in the Declaration of Intent signed on Friday in New York by ICT Minister Savannah Maziya and CEO and Founder of Stardust Jason Michaud, which was witnessed by His Majesty King Mswati III.

The parties to the declaration agreed that their partnership would cover the following ares;

1. Exploration of the establishment of the Kingdom of Eswatini Space Agency (KESA) as a national platform for space education, innovation, and international cooperation.

2. Support for the creation of a Space Academy that aligns with Eswatini’s national education framework and inspires the next generation of innovators.

3. Provision of opportunities for youth engagement, innovation challenges, and scholarships to connect Eswatini students to global learning and mentorship opportunities.

4. Collaboration on public engagement initiatives – including festivals , workshops and cultural exchange activities – that highlight Eswatini’s leadership in space-enabled sustainability.

5. Commitment to work in good faith toward defining concrete programs, policies and frameworks that will lead to a sustainable partnership.

6. Recognition of Eswatini’s ambition to become a regional leader in space innovation, climate action and youth empowerment.

The parties agreed that the declaration is a first step toward formalising a structured collaboration and would work jointly in the development of an MoU or its equivalent framework to guide the creation of long term projects, including potential investments, infrastructure development and international cooperation.

The declaration states that the RSTP would be the implementing agent signaling the shared belief that Space is a bridge to sustainability, opportunity and prosperity and commit to advancing initiatives that empower people, protect the planet and inspire future generations.
