Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s basketball scene is set for an exciting transformation following a generous E117 000 grant from Olympic Solidarity to the Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE). The funding will support a specialized coaching course aimed at sharpening the technical and tactical skills of 15 local coaches.
The course will run from October 8 to 11 at Olympia Africa, marking a significant step forward for the sport, which has steadily gained popularity across schools and communities despite facing challenges such as limited facilities and funding.
Top International Expertise
Leading the programme will be Lazare Adingono, a celebrated Cameroonian-American coach currently at the helm of Primeiro de Agosto, one of Angola’s top basketball clubs. His experience at the highest levels of African basketball is expected to bring invaluable insights and techniques to Eswatini’s developing coaching community.
Empowering Local Coaches
BASE President Clement Dlamini expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, noting that it represents a historic first for the sport in the country.
“It is with so much gratitude that for the first time in Eswatini basketball, we receive a grant of this nature. This generous support will not only empower our coaches with the necessary skills but also strengthen the vision of our association as a whole,” said Dlamini.
He also extended thanks to the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) and Olympic Solidarity for their role in making the programme possible.
Building a Stronger Basketball Future
Basketball in Eswatini has been making steady progress, particularly in schools and communities. This initiative is part of broader efforts to build a strong basketball structure, focusing on improving coaching standards to uplift the overall quality of play.
With better-trained coaches, improved facilities, and continued strategic support, Eswatini aims to soon compete on the continental stage and eventually shine internationally.
