Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s emerging musical talent Skhubash, born Sikhumbuzo Senzo Matsenjwa, has unveiled a deeply personal and innovative tribute to his late sister, marking the country’s first AI-generated song.
Released on October 14, 2025, the track signifies a poignant milestone in both his artistic journey and Eswatini’s music scene.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the tribute, Skhubash revealed, “Making a tribute song for my sister was something I felt I had to do from the depths of my soul.” He described music as a powerful language that transcends words, capable of healing and connecting on a profound level. “My sister has always been my refuge during the darkest times and my greatest joy in the brightest moments. Her love has been a constant, unwavering force in my life,” he shared. The song serves as his way of expressing gratitude and love, a silent thank you and a reminder that he misses her deeply.
The decision to use artificial intelligence in creating the song stemmed from a place of curiosity and creative exploration. Skhubash recounted discovering an AI music-making tool online and experimenting with it. “When I opened my documents, I found the lyrics I had written for a tribute to my sister back in 2023, and I decided to incorporate them,” he said.
On the broader question of AI’s role in art, Skhubash advocated for embracing technology as a valuable tool rather than a threat. He believes AI unlocks new possibilities for experimentation and expression. “AI enables artists to explore styles, sounds, and concepts that might be challenging to achieve manually, expanding the horizons of artistic expression,” he explained.
For him, AI complements the artist’s vision by offering fresh ideas and assisting with technical aspects, allowing creators to focus more on emotion and concept. He emphasized that AI should augment, not replace, human creativity, fostering a dynamic dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Reflecting on the emotional process of making the song, Skhubash described it as both painful and healing. “Creating a song about my dearly missed sister was a profoundly emotional and healing journey,” he said. The AI’s role exceeded his expectations, helping him channel feelings of longing, love, and remembrance into a heartfelt tribute. “Every note and word became a tribute, capturing the precious moments we shared and the void her absence has left,” he noted.
