Africa-Press – Eswatini. The newly unveiled Olympic Rings Monument at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Headquarters will play a central role in promoting Olympic education and values across the country.

This was revealed by EOCGA President Adam “Bomber” Mthethwa during the unveiling ceremony held at the organisation’s headquarters in Lobamba yesterday.

“The Olympic Rings will form a central part of our Olympic Education Programme, through which students from schools across the country will visit our headquarters to learn about the Olympic ideals and the power of sport in shaping lives and communities,” said Mthethwa.

The colourful and symbolic structure represents Eswatini’s growing commitment to the Olympic Movement and the principles of Olympic Solidarity — fostering unity, respect, and excellence through sport.

The event was attended by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Hon. Bongani Nzima, who hailed the development as a historic milestone that places Eswatini on the continental map. He was joined by Under Secretary Mzwandile Mthethwa, representing the Principal Secretary, British High Commissioner Collin Wells, Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council CEO Darius Dlomo, and members of EOCGA.

The Olympic Rings Monument, the first of its kind in Africa, forms part of a broader upgrade of the EOCGA headquarters, funded through the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). The enhancements include a guard house, flagpoles, a paved driveway, and the newly installed Rings, which now stand proudly at the entrance of the Lobamba premises.

These improvements build on the foundation laid with the initial construction of the facility, which was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Hon. Cleopas Dlamini. The first phase, which included the main building and parking area, came at a cost of E3 million, marking a significant investment in the future of sport in Eswatini.

The unveiling concluded with a strong sense of pride and optimism, as guests commended EOCGA’s leadership for positioning Eswatini as a shining example of Olympic growth and excellence on the African continent.
