Africa-Press – Eswatini. State Intelligence information leaked to this Swaziland News suggests that, former National Commissioner of Police Senator Isaac Mmemo Magagula wanted to influence King Mswati to establish a National Intelligence Agency(NIA).
The duties of a National Intelligence Agency (NIA) include gathering, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence to inform national policy and security decisions.
This involves counterintelligence, counter-terrorism, and protecting national Sovereignty.
But apart from that, the National Intelligence Agency provides support to other Government agencies including the law enforcement, promote information sharing while offering unique insights into international threats and opportunities to assist policy-makers.
It has been disclosed that, Senator Isaac Mmemo Magagula shared this idea with former Police Commissioner Edgar Hillary, urging him to assist in convincing the King to establish the NIA but, Hillary rejected the proposal saying it will complicate the collaboration between the three(3) existing armed forces Intelligence Units.
According to the State Intelligence information in our possession, Senator Isaac Magagula wanted the National Intelligence Agency to be structured in a manner that will result to the Army Intelligence, Police and His Majesty’s Correctional Services reporting to him as the proposal was to result to him emerging as the new Minister of Intelligence and State Security.
Senator Isaac Magagula declined to comment about the rejected proposal to establish the NIA and his ambitions to become the Minister of State Intelligence and Security.
But King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said “even though he is not aware of the move by the former National Commissioner”, issues bordering around State security cannot be discussed in the public domain.
“We are not aware of the alleged move by Senator Magagula. The alleged rejection of his idea by the King does not feature in our latest updates. What we are alive to is that anything bordering on security is not subject to public discussion”, said the King’s Spokesperson.
Senator Isaac Magagula(75) has been allegedly expressing ambitions to become a Cabinet Minister in charge of State Security but, King Mswati appointed him to Parliament and “part of his duties is collect intelligence information about the operations of the Legislature”.
