ICT MINISTRY URGES ACTION BEYOND TALK AT INTERNET FORUM

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), together with the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), hosted the 5th Eswatini Internet Governance Forum (IGF) at Sibane Sami Hotel.

The event, held yesterday, brought together government, private sector, civil society, and youth representatives to discuss how Eswatini can build a safer and more inclusive digital future under the theme “Building Digital Governance Together.”

Unlike past meetings focused mainly on policy talks, this year’s Forum stood out for its strong call to action. The Ministry urged all partners to turn discussions into real projects that expand Internet access, improve digital safety, and grow digital skills.

Speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Sabelo Dlamini, the representative said digital governance must go beyond writing rules. “It is about shared responsibility,” she said. “We must build our digital future together, transparently and inclusively,so that every liSwati benefits from the opportunities the digital era brings.”

The Forum’s discussions centred on key issues such as digital inclusion, cybersecurity, responsible innovation, and e-commerce growth. Participants agreed that Internet access alone is not enough, it must come with safety, skills, and accountability.

ESCCOM Chief Executive, Mvilawemphi Dlamini, who was represented by Acting CEO Thulani Fakudze, said the Forum is helping shape Eswatini’s digital transformation. “We must ensure Eswatini’s progress remains safe, inclusive, and empowering for every citizen,” he said.

The Ministry reaffirmed plans to speed up community connectivity projects, expand public Wi-Fi, and strengthen the country’s cybersecurity readiness. It also promised to invest more in local digital content, e-government services, and skills development for youth and entrepreneurs.

Participants left the Forum encouraged to form partnerships that can make these ideas a reality. As one young innovator said after the session, “We always talk about inclusion, but this time it feels like government is really inviting us to help build it.”

The 5th IGF ended with a renewed spirit of teamwork, a reminder that Eswatini’s digital future depends on everyone working together, not just talking together.
