Africa-Press – Eswatini. Renal patients at the Mbabane Government Hospital will now receive care in greater comfort and dignity, following the official opening of a new waiting room by the Minister of Health, Hon. Mduduzi Matsebula, on 7 November 2025.
The modernised facility, valued at E420 000, marks a significant step in improving patient welfare and the overall hospital experience. The new waiting room features comfortable seating, clean bathrooms, a kitchen area, and two smart televisions — a major upgrade from the previous arrangement where patients were forced to wait along the hospital corridors, often during Mbabane’s cold nights.
Speaking during the inauguration, Minister Matsebula explained that the initiative was driven by compassion and a deep awareness of the challenges faced by renal patients. “This project was born from real stories that reached us through the media and during hospital visits,” he said. “It was heartbreaking to see patients sitting in the passages late at night in this cold weather. We had to act, and today we can proudly say that we have delivered.”
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Eswatini Microprojects Programme, which successfully completed the construction in record time, and to the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) for donating the two smart TVs that now enhance the patient experience.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the country. “We are working to bring essential services closer to the people,” he said. “New medical equipment has been purchased and will soon be distributed to facilities in all four regions. We have also employed more doctors and nurses to strengthen dialysis services at Mbabane Government Hospital, Hlathikhulu, and Manzini Nazarene.”
Minister Matsebula went on to highlight the remarkable progress in medicine availability, noting that stock levels had improved dramatically. “We have moved from 30% two years ago to 80% today,” he stated proudly. “Government is doing its best to pay suppliers on time, and as a Ministry, we remain dedicated to making the health sector a better place for everyone.”
Representing the patients, Muzi Nhlabatsi, affectionately known as the “King of Patients,” delivered an emotional message of appreciation to the government and the Minister. “We are truly grateful for this gesture. Minister Matsebula is a hardworking leader, and his impact is visible,” he said. “This waiting room means so much to us—it restores our dignity and reminds us that we matter.”
In response, the Minister reassured patients that ongoing challenges at the renal unit, including medicine shortages, irregular check-ups, and the lack of a nephrologist, were being addressed as a matter of priority. “We recognise the concerns raised by renal patients,” he said. “Regular check-ups and access to medication are essential, and we are committed to ensuring that these issues are resolved.”
The new waiting room now stands as a symbol of government’s dedication to improving healthcare quality, comfort, and accessibility. It reflects a growing commitment to ensure that every patient in Eswatini receives care in an environment that upholds dignity and compassion.
