Africa-Press – Eswatini. Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, has encouraged Taiwanese businesses to explore investment opportunities in Eswatini, highlighting the strong bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Delivering a keynote address at the Eswatini-Taiwan Business Seminar held on Tuesday at Hilton Garden Inn, Mbabane, Minister Khumalo expressed appreciation for the continued partnership with the Republic of China (Taiwan) and praised its commitment to supporting Eswatini’s economic development agenda. The event was attended by Ambassador Jeremy Liang, Members of Parliament and Senators serving on the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade Portfolio Committee, and the Southern African Taiwanese Business Delegation.

Minister Khumalo reported that Eswatini had hosted three Taiwanese missions this year, aimed at turning diplomatic engagements into tangible investment projects. He highlighted the forthcoming Taiwan Innovation and Business Park in Phocweni, which received His Majesty the King’s blessing earlier this year. The Minister explained that the Park would provide Taiwanese companies with a gateway to regional markets and would transform Eswatini into a potential manufacturing hub for the Southern African region.

He identified sectors offering promising opportunities for collaboration, including agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and tourism. Minister Khumalo noted that Taiwan’s expertise in technology and innovation could significantly contribute to Eswatini’s industrial and technological growth, while agro-processing partnerships could enhance food security and productivity. He also cited tourism as an area for joint ventures, given Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

The Minister further outlined investment programmes available to foreign investors, including the Permanent Residence by Investment scheme and the operational Business One-Stop Shop, designed to facilitate ease of doing business and ensure long-term certainty for investors.

In conclusion, Minister Khumalo expressed gratitude to Taiwanese partners for their commitment to making Eswatini their investment home. He urged all participants to engage creatively and collaboratively to achieve sustainable development and mutual prosperity. He also thanked the organisers, particularly the Taiwan Embassy and the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority, for coordinating the event.

Minister Khumalo emphasised that active participation by investors would be pivotal in shaping Eswatini’s shared economic future, underpinned by innovation, investment, and cooperation.
