Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Health has officially launched the Health Excellence Awards 2025, a new national initiative aimed at celebrating outstanding performance and strengthening quality healthcare delivery across Eswatini’s health sector. The launch was held November 18, 2025 at Bethel Court Vineyard in Ezulwini.
Speaking during the launch Minister of Health represented by Minister of Housing and Urban Development Hon. Apollo Maphalala said the awards mark a renewed commitment to building a stronger, more accountable, and people-centred health system. He emphasised that the programme is intended to uplift health workers, rather than create divisions.
“These awards should never cause division among health workers,” he said. “Instead, they must unite us in a shared vision of excellence, professionalism, and dedication to serving the nation.”
The health Excellence Awards will be a biennial national programme designed to recognise excellence across all levels of healthcare from tertiary and regional hospitals to health centres, public health programmes, community health motivators, and facility health and safety initiatives.
A total of eight categories will be honoured which include tertiary and regional hospitals, health centres, public health programs, facility health and safety, and honouring individual contributors and community health motivators,
Minister Apollo noted that the initiative comes at a time when the Ministry has made significant progress despite recent challenges. “We are coming from an era of indifference, but we are rebuilding public trust,” he said. “By celebrating excellence, we are showing the nation that confidence in our health system is not misplaced. We have capable, dedicated people delivering care every day.”
He highlighted that exceptional health workers and innovative programmes often go unrecognised. The awards aim to change this by promoting best practices, inspiring continuous improvement, and strengthening accountability.
“The Health Excellence Awards are not just about trophies and ceremonies,” the Acting Minister added. “They are a strategic catalyst for inspiring continuous improvement, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that successful models in one clinic or hospital are shared across the country.”
The Ministry of Health believes the awards will help motivate staff, highlight innovation, and elevate standards of care for every citizen of Eswatini.
