Inmacom Enhances Eswatini'S Role in Water Cooperation

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s role in regional water governance received a major boost as the Incomati and Maputo Watercourse Commission (INMACOM) convened a powerful two-day meeting aimed at enhancing cross-border communication and coordination among countries sharing the Incomati–Maputo basin.

The gathering brought together communication practitioners from key water institutions, including Eswatini’s own Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA), alongside JRBA, ARA-Sul, South Africa’s Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), and Mozambique’s Direcção Nacional de Gestão de Recursos Hídricos. Their mission: to strengthen the shared communication framework guiding water security across the three nations.

For Eswatini, this collaboration is especially significant. It ensures the country’s priorities in flood-risk management, sustainable water use and climate-change adaptation are clearly articulated and well-represented in regional planning. Eswatini continues to play a vital role in promoting responsible water stewardship within the basin.

Hosted at Badplaas Resort in the Republic of South Africa, the meeting focused on developing a joint communication activity calendar for 2026, identifying impactful cross-border awareness campaigns and reviewing INMACOM’s Communication Strategy and Action Plan. These efforts are designed to deliver consistent messaging that supports communities from the Highveld of Eswatini to the lowlands of Mozambique.

By aligning outreach activities with its neighbours, Eswatini stands to benefit from improved public awareness programmes, harmonised stakeholder engagement, and the pooling of technical expertise. This collective approach not only enhances INMACOM’s impact but also strengthens Eswatini’s ability to safeguard its water resources and respond to climate-related challenges.

The strengthened partnership further positions Eswatini to attract new development support, tap into regional knowledge systems, and remain an influential player in transboundary water management.

As climate pressures intensify, Eswatini’s continued participation in such forums sends a clear message: the Kingdom is committed to working hand-in-hand with neighbours to secure a resilient, sustainable water future for its people and the region.
