Africa-Press – Eswatini. Director of Communications in the King’s Office, Percy Simelane, has firmly dismissed claims made by Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala before South Africa’s Ad Hoc Committee , where he alleged that he was personally invited by Her Majesty the Indlovukazi to attend His Majesty the King’s birthday celebrations.
Simelane clarified that there is no official record of such an invitation, stressing that royal invitations follow strict documentation procedures.
“We have no record of the invitation in question. We therefore may not say he indeed was invited by the Indlovukazi or not. Normally an invitation is between the host and the person desired to be present, unless that guest falls under the VIP or VVIP category,” he said.
New Claims, New Contradictions
During his testimony, Matlala went further, claiming that he does not possess any Eswatini identification document nor a passport from the Kingdom. This assertion has also been contradicted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which has confirmed the existence of records showing he indeed possesses Eswatini documentation.
Sources within Home Affairs disclosed that not only do such documents exist, but an internal investigation has already taken place. The matter escalated this week when a Home Affairs officer was arrested in connection with the irregular issuance of Matlala’s documents. The officer appeared in court to face charges relating to the matter.
Royal Protocol Remains Clear
Invitations to royal events, especially those issued by Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, are guided by strict, traceable procedures. Every VIP or VVIP invitation is logged, verified, and communicated through official channels.
Simelane’s clarification reinforces that Matlala’s claims do not align with established protocol or documented facts.
Restoring Accuracy Amid Public Claims
Matlala’s testimony has sparked interest beyond Eswatini’s borders, yet both the Royal Household and the Ministry of Home Affairs have now provided clarifications that directly contradict his statements. The confirmed existence of his documents and the arrest of a responsible officer indicate that the State has acted to address any administrative wrongdoing, while also ensuring that misleading claims do not distort the truth.
Safeguarding the Monarchy’s Integrity
As public attention shifts toward this unfolding narrative, Eswatini remains steadfast in its values: truth, respect, and the protection of national institutions. By clarifying the facts, the King’s Office and Home Affairs have ensured the accuracy of the record and protected the dignity of Her Majesty the Indlovukazi and the monarchy at large.
