Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Education and Training has introduced a positive reform to the country’s primary education system, with Grade 7 examinations now officially renamed the Eswatini Primary School Assessment.
Announcing the change during the release of the Grade 7 results, Minister Owen Nxumalo explained that the shift aligns with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system. Instead of being treated as high-stakes exams, the assessments will now serve as diagnostic tools to help identify each learner’s strengths and areas for improvement across subjects.
The Minister highlighted that this learner-focused approach promotes growth, confidence, and support for pupils as they transition to secondary education, ensuring that assessment outcomes are used to guide learning rather than compare learners against one another.
