Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Government of Eswatini, through the Ministry of Education and Training, is working with Microprojects, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and other stakeholders to rehabilitate schools damaged by the recent storms ahead of the January school opening.

The assurance that all affected schools will be ready before learners return was made on Tuesday December 30, 2025 by the Principal Planning Officer in the Ministry of Education and Training, Nkhululeko Gwebu, during the announcement of the 2025 EPSA examination results.

He said Microprojects as from tomorrow December 31, 2025 will be working on completion of the expansion of interest process and engaged contractors who will be introduced to affected schools on January 2, 2026, to immediately commence rehabilitation works.

The interventions follow heavy storms that struck parts of the country on December 2, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, particularly in Mayiwane Inkhundla, where at least seven schools were severely affected. Contractors have already been mobilised, with some schools set to benefit from new constructions due to the extent of the destruction.

Information shared on the social media page of Mayiwane Member of Parliament, Hon. Sicelo Dlamini, indicates that the arrival of contractors has been welcomed by the community. He expressed gratitude to Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, NDMA and all stakeholders for the swift response, noting that the intervention has restored hope among residents.

Government support has also been extended to families whose homes were destroyed by the storms. On December 22, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla visited Mayiwane Inkhundla to oversee the handover of building materials to affected households. A total of 110 homesteads are expected to benefit from the exercise, which will run until the end of January.

Of these, 12 families whose homes were extensively damaged will have their houses reconstructed from scratch, with construction scheduled to begin in February 2026. Community members who assisted with offloading building materials were commended for their cooperation and unity.

Meanwhile, road rehabilitation efforts are also underway. On December 6, 2025, NDMA deployed machinery to repair storm-damaged roads in the area in collaboration with the Ministry of Works. Residents have been urged to remain calm and patient as recovery efforts continue.
