Africa-Press – Eswatini. Motshane Member of Parliament Wilton Nkambule has applauded the Eswatini Government for approving the construction of new roads at Phalamende community within the Mpolonjeni Chiefdom and KaManyisa community within the Kupheleni Chiefdom, describing the development as a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to grassroots development.
Nkambule was speaking during the official handover of the contractor, Ant Group, at the two communities on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The contractor was handed over by Microprojects. Nkambule expressed gratitude for government’s continued efforts to improve infrastructure despite limited national resources and encouraged community members to fully support the contractor to ensure the successful completion of the projects.
“We appreciate government’s commitment towards the development of these roads. Our government adopted the nkwe mandate, and the handover of the contractor is testimony to this,” said Nkambule.
The legislator emphasised that government listens to the needs of citizens and makes deliberate efforts to implement development projects that respond to community priorities. He noted that the construction of the two roads was a direct result of requests submitted by residents through the Inkhundla structures.
“We are pleased that government does not only listen to our grievances, but also takes steps to implement development projects. We are here today because residents approached us in 2024, and the construction of these roads formed part of their requests,” he said.
Nkambule explained that following the submissions by residents, the Inkhundla leadership engaged government through its Microprojects Unit, leading to the approval of funding and the eventual introduction of the contractor and government delegation to the communities.
He further thanked residents for their continued support of Inkhundla leadership and urged them to maintain unity and cooperation throughout the construction process.
Drawing on a local analogy, Nkambule compared the community to a millipede, noting that although it has many small legs, they work together to move forward effectively.
“In the same way, if we work together as a community towards a common goal, we will succeed,” he said.
The MP also encouraged other communities within Motshane Inkhundla to actively submit development proposals through the proper channels so that leadership can forward them to government for consideration and possible funding.
He expressed concern that some communities desire development but fail to follow the required procedures, such as formally submitting requests to the Inkhundla offices.
“We hope they will be motivated once they see other communities benefiting simply by following the correct process. There is nothing we can do to engage the Microprojects Unit if communities fail to take initiative and do what is expected,” Nkambule said.
The road construction projects are expected to improve accessibility, enhance economic activity, and uplift the quality of life for residents in Phalamende and KaManyisa, reinforcing government’s commitment to inclusive and community-driven development.
