Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati’s upcoming forty (40) years on the Throne celebration will assist the country’s leadership in reflecting on development while identifying areas for improvement, his Spokesperson Percy Simelane told on Monday afternoon.
The Monarchy’s Spokesperson was asked by this publication to clearly explain the significance of the celebration in a country where about 70% of the population lives below the poverty, the King will also celebrate his fifty-eighth (58th) Birthday this year and the event is highly expected to be attended by among others, Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te.
“Today’s governance, under normal thinking leadership, is run more like a corporate where stock taking is not an option but a must if the business is to thrive in the best interest of all stakeholders. It is strategically stock taking that tells administration or leadership which services need to be improved, spiked or maintained. So, celebrating 40 years of honorable undertakings by leadership to develop this country is, in our view, political stock taking, to reflect with a view to improve service to the masses the system serves,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
But critics within the Southern African tiny Kingdom particularly the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), accuse the King of extravagant spending in a country where the scarcity of jobs, cashflow challenges amid Government failure to timely pay suppliers and the shortage of drugs in public hospitals form part of the key social problems.
King Mswati is highly expected to spend over R50million public funds when celebrating 40 years on the Throne but, the amount might escalate considering the fact that, he will also celebrate his 58th Birthday.
