Africa-Press – Eswatini. In an effort to curb cybercrime, Government has empowered members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) with emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations.

This initiative has been undertaken in collaboration with the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) to equip local law enforcers with modern technologies that may be exploited by criminals to commit offences.

The RSTP stated that REPS are embracing the future, as dedicated personnel from the Royal Eswatini Police Service visited the park to explore innovative services and the transformative potential of AI in enhancing productivity.

“This commitment to modern policing is inspiring. Furthermore, all emaSwati can explore AI through free eight-week courses and a Nanodegree offered by Coders Eswatini,” RSTP said in a statement.

It is worth noting that cybercrime has increased alarmingly in recent years, including the robbery of banking institutions and the targeting of unsuspecting members of the public through the misuse of new technologies.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, the Royal Eswatini Police Service reportedly capacitated 35 police officers drawn from various stations across the country through an intensive Police Practice and Law Course 1 of 2025. The official closing ceremony of the 14-week training programme was held at the Matsapha Police Academy, where Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Vusi Gama delivered the keynote address.

The course was carefully designed in response to the urgent need to address the rapidly evolving legal landscape and technological advancements shaping modern policing. Recognising that crime is becoming increasingly sophisticated and technology-driven, the training aimed to equip officers with up-to-date knowledge, modern skills and the appropriate professional mindset required to meet contemporary law enforcement challenges effectively.

In his address, Gama congratulated the officers on successfully completing the course. He emphasised that modern-day policing extends beyond visible patrols and traditional investigative methods. Officers must remain up to date with new developments in order to serve effectively and uphold the law.

Gama further urged the officers to uphold the mission, vision and core values of the Royal Eswatini Police Service. He encouraged them to serve the community with honour and to lead with wisdom.

“May you return to your stations as ambassadors of professionalism and exemplary colleagues. Strive to uphold the integrity and dignity of the badge you wear, and serve with pride and dedication,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating officers, Constable Bongekile Mamba expressed gratitude to the organisation for the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge. She pledged that, upon returning to their respective stations, they would diligently apply what they had learnt. She also affirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence and upholding the honour of their badge with pride and professionalism.
