Africa-Press – Eswatini. When you arrive in public hospitals these days, you find some health workers with medications in their pockets and those health workers will after seeing a patient with a prescription, offer to sell the medication at a cheaper or discounted price.

In one of my Facebook posts dating back to about ten (10) years ago, I predicated that, access to health in Eswatini will end-up being through ‘connections’ or corruption, it’s happening now.

But even though based on my experience as a journalist, I sometimes correctly predict things before they happen, the situation within the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) came as a surprise or shock to me, I never thought emaSwati will end-up being forced to bribe EEC workers just to speed-up the process of connecting electricity in the rural areas.

EEC is collapsing and the company’s systems are now vulnerable to manipulation by workers to defraud innocent members of the public by demanding bribes to speed-up the connection process.

But the State owned Electricity Company has been declaring profits to Government and we have been questioning how a State company established to provide services to the public ended-up being a profit generating corporate entity, citizens are made to pay tax and sustain these State companies and these entities end-up being cash cows for Mswati, the corrupt Government and the royal family.

Now, emaSwati are made to pay through bribes and expensive electricity, Tinkhundla system under King Mswati has failed this country and corruption is fast becoming a way of life.
