Africa-Press – Eswatini. The growth of Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) is anticipated to rebound to 3.8% in 2025 and 4.1% in 2026, as indicated in a report by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) released on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, during the 57th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.

The report was presented by Zuzana Schwidrowski, the director of the Macro-Economics, Finance, and Governance Division at UNECA. Schwidrowski noted that while African economies exhibit resilience, the current growth rates remain insufficient to promote social development across the continent.

Despite an increase in the dynamism and diversification of intra-African trade in certain regions, the contribution of trade to Africa’s overall growth has diminished compared to previous years. The report also highlighted that Africa continues to be the second-fastest-growing region globally, primarily due to a decrease in inflationary pressures. While extreme poverty in Africa has declined in accordance with global trends, it remains alarmingly high in nearly all sub-regions, with North Africa being the only exception.

Additionally, climate change poses a significant threat to Africa’s developmental gains. Rising temperatures are expected to adversely affect agricultural yields, leading to ongoing food insecurity in various parts of the continent, the report cautioned.
