Africa-Press – Eswatini. Jeremy Liang, the Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan has launched the Eswatini National Genebank building at Malkerns Research Station, Government online platforms reported on Saturday morning.
It has been reported that,the building will be used to conserve vegetable biodiversity of Africa for the next generation.
Speaking during the event, Mandla Tshauke, the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives said, the country realizes the value of the traditional seed ecosystems and biodiversity in sustainable agriculture and conversation.
“The government of the Kingdom of Eswatini realizes the value of traditional seed ecosystems and biodiversity in sustainable agriculture and conservation. In this cutting-edge genebank, seeds can be securely stored for up to an astonishing 100 years, ensuring that we preserve the precious genetic heritage of our traditional seed ecosystems. This is not just a building; it’s a gateway to safeguarding sustainable agriculture and food security for countless years ahead”, Minister Tshawuka said.
