Amnesty International Demands Release of Eswatini Mps

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Amnesty International, an international human rights organization, is demanding the unconditional release of convicted pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.

The two(2) MPs were charged and subsequently convicted on politically motivated terrorism charges merely for, demanding democratic reforms in the tiny Kingdom ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch.

In a statement sent by Amnesty International, the human rights organization designated MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube as prisoners of conscience, they were imprisoned solely for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of expression, association, and political participation.

“By designating Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube as prisoners of conscience, Amnesty International affirms that they should never have been arrested in the first place,” Tigere Chagutah, Amnesty International’s Regional Director for East and Southern Africa said as quoted in the statement sent to this publication.

Eswatini is an absolute Monarchy, political parties are banned from participating in elections while human rights defenders, independent journalists and pro-democracy MPs are arrested, forced to exile, tortured or even killed for demanding democracy.
