Africa-Press – Eswatini. The King’s Birthday holiday, which the Kingdom of Eswatini observes on the 19th of April each year, has officially been moved to April 24, 2026. This announcement was made by the Minister of Home Affairs, Princess Lindiwe Dlamini, on April 10 during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
She confirmed that King Mswati III has graciously approved that this year’s national celebration be observed on a single day in recognition of a historic milestone.
Dlamini said the decision reflects a moment of national importance as the Kingdom prepares to celebrate both His Majesty’s 58th birthday and 40 years on the throne, describing it as a rare and significant double celebration in Eswatini’s national calendar.
She explained that the main national event will take place on Friday, 24 April 2026 at Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba, where thousands of emaSwati are expected to gather to honour the King’s long-standing leadership, national development, and cultural stewardship. The day has also been officially declared a public holiday, allowing citizens across the country to participate in the celebrations.
“His Majesty has graciously approved that the nation observes this important occasion on a single day, allowing emaSwati to celebrate in unity,” Dlamini said.
She further confirmed that while the main celebration will be held on April 24, the national commemorative programme will continue beyond the day. April 25 will remain National Flag Day, observed as part of the country’s patriotic calendar, while celebrations will continue on Sunday, 26 April 2026 with Culture Day at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, where emaSwati and visitors will be given an opportunity to experience and appreciate Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
Dlamini emphasized that the extended programme is designed to ensure that both national pride and cultural identity are fully celebrated during this historic period.
“The milestone celebrations will be as follows: On Friday, 24th April 2026, the grand celebration will take place at Somhlolo National Stadium. On Sunday, 26th April 2026, Culture Day will be observed at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, offering a unique opportunity to engage with and appreciate our rich cultural heritage,” she stated.
She also extended a heartfelt invitation to all emaSwati, residents, and friends of the Kingdom to take part in the celebrations, calling for unity, joy, and national pride during the commemorations.
“I would like to take this opportunity to warmly invite all citizens, residents, and friends of the nation to join His Majesty the King in celebrating this remarkable milestone,” Dlamini said. “Let us come together in unity and joy to honour four decades of visionary leadership and commitment to the progress of our country.”
Dlamini concluded by conveying best wishes on behalf of the Government and the people of Eswatini, celebrating His Majesty King Mswati III’s 58th birthday and 40th coronation anniversary, describing the occasion as a defining moment in the Kingdom’s modern history.
