Africa-Press – Eswatini. Artists have hailed Sisekelo High School for introducing music as a subject.
The artists believe that this is good for the industry and it will help pupils who would like to join the music industry.
This follows the appointment of Winile Primrose Dlamini as the new Principal of the school.
The board of directors of the school announced that they would be introducing music as subject next year.
Jelele.com CEO Dr P said music must be taught in schools.
“The more schools that teach the arts at primary and high school level, the higher the bar will rise in terms of quality of performance, production and overall creativity in the country.
Exposure at an early age to theory and performance is the key to development,” he said.
Dr P further mentioned that as a country Eswatini would have a far more knowledgeable, exposed public and audience, who would appreciate the effort and what goes behind making music.
“Once this happens, you’ll find the public more supportive and willing to put their money behind local music or art.
People who did music or drama at school tend to respect and appreciate, thus support more than those who haven’t,” said Dr P.
Bholoja said empowering the youth with skills and knowledge would bring a positive change to the society.
“This kind of undertaking must be done by most schools, pupils should be equipped with skills so that they are independent and can create jobs by themselves.
The arts industry has proven internationally to be a stable industry that we can depend on, especially if supported by government to be fully established.
We would like to urge government to support the introduction and impartation of skills in schools,” said Bholoja.
