Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini Mobile Marks WTISD 2025 with a Bold Commitment to Digital Gender Equality.

As the world commemorates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2025, the spotlight falls on an issue of growing global importance, advancing digital gender equality.

This year’s theme calls for urgent action to ensure that women and girls everywhere are empowered not only to benefit from but also to shape the digital transformation that is redefining our societies.

Eswatini Mobile recognizes that digital transformation cannot reach its full potential if it excludes half the population. As a proudly Swati-owned company, its committed to fostering inclusion, innovation and empowerment, values that reflect both operational ethos and their vision to become Africa’s Leading Integrated Business Partner.

Genius Sihlongonyane, Chief Information Officer at Eswatini Mobile, underscores the significance of strategically accelerating digital transformation to significantly improve its operational efficiency and effectively meet the evolving needs of its growing customer base initiative. “This digital transformation is not merely about adopting new technologies; it represents a fundamental reshaping of our operational framework. Our primary focus is to enhance our ability to serve our customers better and adeptly navigate the evolving regulatory environment.”

Sihlongonyane states that recognising the paramount importance of network access and affordability in today’s interconnected world, Eswatini Mobile is continuously investing in its Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. This strategic investment directly addresses the increasing demands of its customers and reinforces the company’s competitive edge.

The company has observed a significant surge in the utilisation of data services, reflecting a shifting lifestyle trend. In response, Eswatini Mobile is actively investing in self-service platforms. These initiatives will empower customers to access support and complete registration processes conveniently. The introduction of innovative technologies such as e-SIM, pioneered by Eswatini Mobile in the country, further facilitates digital engagement. New customers can now seamlessly access services directly from their own devices, eliminating the need for physical visits to retail locations, thereby enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

According to Sihlongonyane, one of the clearest reflections of the company’s commitment to ensure that women and girls are empowered to shape the digital transformation that is redefining our societies, is found in the leadership of Nompumelelo Maziya, who is the Information and Technology Manager at Eswatini Mobile, a role traditionally dominated by men, but one that she has not only embraced, but redefined with excellence, resilience, and purpose.

Maziya is at the helm of some of the most critical operations at Eswatini Mobile. She has spearheaded system upgrades that introduced robust security enhancements, fortifying our infrastructure against the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats. Her strategic leadership was also key in the successful execution of the VELA Project, a groundbreaking initiative that introduced advanced facial recognition and ID verification technologies.

This innovation significantly elevated the company’s data protection standards, reflecting the company’s commitment to not only safeguarding customer information but also setting new benchmarks for digital trust and reliability in the region.

Beyond her technical accomplishments, Maziya plays an instrumental role in fostering a culture of inclusivity within the mobile company digital ecosystem. She is a vocal advocate for equal access to opportunity in the ICT space and is actively mentoring a new generation of young women in tech. Her work is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when organisations provide women with the tools, support, and platforms to lead.

Eswatini Mobile believes that diversity drives innovation. By creating opportunities for women in strategic areas such as cyber security, IT, and digital services, the company is not only shaping a stronger organisation but contributing to a more resilient, secure, and equitable digital future for the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Eswatini Mobile is proud to say: they are breaking barriers and building a future where everyone belongs.
