Africa-Press – Eswatini. Chance of a Mbabane derby in the finals of the Ingwenyama Cup vanished like morning dew, but one thing is for sure; one of the capital city giants will be in the finals of the tournament.
The semi-finals draw was conducted yesterday at Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund Headquarters.
Capital city giants Mbanae Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders were drawn against each other, while defending champions Green Mamba will take on Young Buffaloes to fight for a spot in the final.
The Ingwenyama Cup is Eswatini’s leading football competition and sees amateur clubs play against top teams, providing them with the opportunity to conquer what could be termed as elite clubs.
The draw has also granted a wish to many football supporters, as they desired for the exact structure of the semi-finals draw.
The matches will be played on March 10 at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders will host their arch-rivals Mbabane Swallows in what is believed to be the centre of attraction on the day, and a repetition of the 2019 quarterfinal of the same cup, where Kenneth Moloto’s cracker was enough to send Swallows packing at a fully-packed Somhlolo National Stadium.
Another exciting clash will be when security forces sides Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes lock horns.
The two sides met in the quarter-finals of the last edition of the tournament, where Green Mamba emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline, and they were eventually crowned champions in 2019, making this match a grudge clash as well.
Mbabane Swallows will be looking to lift the cup for the fourth time in its history, while security forces sides Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes would want to complete a double.
Mbabane Highlanders are still hoping for their maiden gold medal of the rich tournament despite reaching the finals two times.
Interesting
They lost it in the hands of the very same forces teams.
Ingwenyama Cup Public Relations Officer Nkhosilenhle Masuku referred to the draw as a very interesting one. “This is a very interesting draw, as it has presented a chance to watch the country’s biggest derbies where we will experience the Mbabane derby and the forces derby.
“That alone is an indication that the stadium will be tested to its maximum capacity due to the nature of the games,” said Masuku
