Africa-Press – Eswatini. Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni has reported that the Easter holiday period was largely peaceful across the country, with emaSwati demonstrating strong cooperation with the Royal Eswatini Police Service.

Providing an operational update following the Good Friday holidays, Mnguni indicated that no major road disturbances were recorded, highlighting responsible behavior among motorists. However, she confirmed that 10 fatal accidents occurred nationwide during the holiday period, a concern that continues to trouble authorities despite overall compliance.

In terms of violent crime, five murder cases were reported in Mkweli, Fairview in Manzini, Lavumisa, Pigg’s Peak, and Hlatsi. Four additional attempted murder cases were also recorded, all linked to entertainment events held over the long weekend. Police believe alcohol consumption and large gatherings may have contributed to these incidents.

Mnguni also revealed that a man from South Africa was arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns around illegal firearms entering the country through its borders.

On a positive note, she emphasized that no theft or robbery cases were reported in homesteads across the country during the Easter period, describing this as a significant achievement for both the police and the public.

She further commended visitors for maintaining good conduct, stating that tourists did not present any challenges during their stay. As travelers begin returning home, Mnguni urged continued vigilance on the roads to avoid accidents.

Looking ahead, she reaffirmed that policing strategies used during major holidays will not be limited to festive periods. The Royal Eswatini Police Service will continue to intensify daily operations to ensure safety and reduce crime across the country.
