Africa-Press – Eswatini. There is no better place than home.

The above adage holds true for Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive member Charles Matsebula, as he is back with MTN National First Division (NFD) outfit Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows. This follows reports a few weeks after the past season was concluded that he had stepped down as chairperson of the black and white Pigg’s Peak-based side. According to impeccable sources close to Abafana Bemaphasela, as Black Swallows are fondly known in local football circles, the club failed to get a candidate to take the hot seat of leading them as chairperson. The source also said the elders had no choice, but to engage Matsebula to continue with his duties as the chairperson again for the new season.

Spotted

Matsebula was spotted with Black Swallows this past Sunday at the Killarney Sports Ground, where the club had organised a four-team preseason friendly games. The friendly matches featured MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Swallows, MTN Premier League-bound Illovo, as well as Hhohho Regional Super League side Msumpe Manchester United. Black Swallows Elder Sipho ‘Kwena’ Shongwe when quizzed on the presence of Matsebula in the set-up of the team revealed that he was their chairman and was busy preparing the side for the new season. The new season, according to reports from the PLE, is penned to kick off next month. The Pigg’s Peak-based side is also expected to participate in the 2023 MoMo Cup as they are in the top six.

Lead

“Charles is our chairperson; he will lead the club again this season until we get someone else, buy what I can say is that he is still our chairperson,” Shongwe said. He also clarified that after getting the new chairperson, they would sit down with Matsebula to forge a way forward as he was valuable asset of the team. Meanwhile, Matsebula also confirmed that he was still the ‘main man’ at Black Swallows after the elders requested him to continue with his duties. “Yes I’m still fully in charge of the team. I was requested by elders to continue and I accepted because nobody came through,” Matsebula clarified. He said he felt humbled and honoured to once again take over such a huge responsibility.

Focus

“Our focus now is to prepare the team for the new season as we are a bit behind but we believe we shall catch up,” he explained. The side, on the other hand, has roped in former Umbelebele and Billy Ocean gaffer Mhlonishwa ‘Gattuso’ Dlamini as he was seen giving instructions on Sunday during the games.
