Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Correctional Sunrise Ladies Volleyball Team has powered into the last 16 of the CAVB Zone VI Club Championship currently underway in Polokwane, South Africa, following a strong showing in the group stages of the regional tournament.

The team departed Eswatini earlier this month from the Correctional Staff College in Matsapha to compete in the championship, which runs from December 9 to 22, 2025 at the Ngoako Ramathlodi Sports Complex.

The competition features elite club teams from SADC countries, including Eswatini, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa and Angola.

Correctional Sunrise sealed qualification to the knockout phase after recording convincing results in the pool stages. The team opened their campaign with a commanding 3–0 victory, setting the tone for the matches that followed.

They went on to secure a crucial 3–1 win in their second outing, showing resilience and tactical discipline against determined opposition. Despite a narrow 3–2 loss in one encounter, the Eswatini side accumulated enough points to comfortably progress to the last 16.

Team Chairperson and Head of Delegation Cosmo Dlamini praised the players’ composure and consistency throughout the group matches, noting that the results reflected the level of preparation and teamwork within the squad.

“Our objective was to reach the knockout stages, and the team delivered. The players remained focused even in difficult moments, which made the difference,” Dlamini said.

He further expressed appreciation to financial partners Eclipse, OK Foods, Delta Pay and MulaSport, as well as Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, for supporting the team’s participation at regional level.

The delegation includes head coach Mbuso Vilakati, assistant coach Themba Sifundza, manager Mathokoza Gama and physical trainer Mpendulo Mhlanga. The team has remained largely injury-free, with centre blocker Nonduduzo Nxumalo nursing a minor ankle knock.

The Correctional Sunrise Ladies are expected to return to Eswatini on December 22 at the conclusion of the championship.
